Keishi ryû is not grown as a traditional ryû-ha (school) but was designed about 130 years ago by different masters of different schools in order to teach police forces the use of the sword. These schools are:
- Asayama Ichiden ryû
- Kyoshin Meichi ryû
- Shinto Munen ryû
- Tatsumi ryû
- Tamiya ryû
The techniques of Keishi ryû are very close to those of the Shinto munen ryû and all kata are standing (tachiai).
