Someya Chikatoshi (1924-1999) – founder of Meifu Shinkage ryu was born in Chiba prefecture in Japan.
He came from a samurai family and even today there are many families “Someya” in Chiba and Ibaraki Prefecture in the Kanto area in Japan.
Someya Sensei loved Samurai and Japanese martial arts from youth. Especially he loved Shuriken jutsu.
Its main intention why he started to study Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu under Sugino Yoshio was that he wanted to learn Shuriken jutsu of this school.
Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu is a school of traditional Japanese martial art, therefore to be initiated into the secret art of Shuriken jutsu he had to learn the whole school. After many years of training he became a master of Katori Shinto Ryu.
Someya Sensei was also a friend of Nawa Yumio, who was Soke Masaki Ryu. Although Someya Sensei never been a student of Nawa Sensei but because they had from 1960 the great friendship Someya Sensei watched his Kusari Fundo skills and gained from Nawa Sensei valuable advices. So that´s why he later created Kusari Fundo jutsu techniques for his own school Meifu Shinkage Ryu, which is largely based on Masaki Ryu.
Someya Sensei also went through a painful period of his youth during the Second World War, where he worked as a surgeon in the Navy.
After the war he returned to university, where he completed studies and became a doctor of medicine and began practicing his medical practice.
In addition to his work at the clinic he continued his research in the field of Shuriken jutsu.
Examined other Shuriken school such as Shirai Ryu, Chishin Ryu, Mouen Ryu and more.
Someya Sensei was a great researcher in the field of Shuriken Jutsu. He studied many styles, different types of shurikens and to get acquainted with their properties. He carefully studied the flight characteristics of Shurikens, different lengths and shapes, trying to see what works best.
After years of studies he founded his own school where he taught primarily Shuriken Jutsu. This happened in 1960 and in this time he also named his school Meifu Shinkage Ryu.
Someya Sensei then introduced his Shuriken technology in his books and opened his dojo for public.
It was revolution in the traditional Japanese martial art because representatives of the classical martial arts don´t like to open their techniques to the public.
Especially Shuriken jutsu was taken as the secret art for a very long time.
For this reason we can only find in Japan very few materials relating to Shuriken jutsu.
This was also the reason why it was almost impossible to find a teacher Shuriken jutsu.
Someya Sensei was from those reasons very disappointed.
He was very afraid that Shuriken Jutsu disappear from Japanese history once and for all.
During his life he taught many people Shuriken jutsu and died in 1999.
During his life he wrote the books “Shuriken jutsu nyumon” and “Kakushibuki jutsu nyumon”.
